List of social care services in Toronto?

Hi, Im from the UK and would like to get a work permit to work in Toronto for a year. I would like to work with people with mental health problems, a hostel or in a childrens home or something. Im finding it hard to find a potential employers through just searching, especially as Canadian terms for things like this are often different. Does anyone know of a site which would provide a list of social/health services in Toronto or something similar? Thanks!List of social care services in Toronto?
For some of these you will require the right papers i.e. local address, you might have to get a background check especially if you are working with children etc.

Hope these help.

For mental health try:

www.camh.net

For Social Services for children:

We call them "Children's Aid Society" here in Canada and there is also a Catholic Children's Aid Society.

www.torontocas.ca

www.ccas.toronto.on.ca

You can also try www.ymca.ca and www.ywca.ca

Other than that local shelters are usually run by churches.

This is a city website for shelters. You could try contacting them individually about volunteer positions:

http://www.toronto.ca/housing/index.htm

There is also the Daily Food Bank where you can help you:

www.dailybread.ca

For general volunteer database website that I have used in the past:

www.volunteertoronto.on.ca

Oh and sorry I know some of these are more volunteer based but many of them also offer employment depending on your credentials.

You should see these websites to see the terminology used for the job positions and then try free job website databases as:

www.monster.ca

www.workopolis.ca

Hope this has been of help.
