What are some good snow removal companies in the Greater Toronto Area?

I own a small company in Toronto and need to find a good snow plow service that doesn't charge to much. What are some good snow removal companies in the Greater Toronto Area?
I live in Toronto and I have tried a few different Snow Plow/Snow Removal Services in the past few years and would highly recommend the company “Ciscon Snow Plowing %26amp; Removal” for all your snow removal needs. They are very prompt and professional with very competitive pricing for all their snow removal services. Their snow plow services cater more towards medium/large businesses but they also offer snow removal services for private residents and small businesses. You can find more detailed info (including maps %26amp; contact info) for “Ciscon Snow Plowing %26amp; Removal” here: http://www.canpages.ca/page/ON/toronto/c…

You can also find a detailed list of other Snow Removal companies in the Greater Toronto Area here: http://www.canpages.ca/business/ON/great…

Hope this helps.

Where to shop in Toronto for clothesshoes/bags etc at good prices?

I'm going to Toronto over this weekend. While I intend to spend most of the time visiting the city, I wouldn't mind some shopping at reasonable prices. Can anyone suggest any great places? Are there any good outlet malls in the area?Where to shop in Toronto for clothesshoes/bags etc at good prices?
I'm not so sure about outlet malls around the area, but try the Eaton Centre downtown, toronto.

www.torontoeatoncentre.com/

thats a link to that mall. Gives you lots of info and stuff. Huge mall so lots of place to shop. They have stores like Hollister, Abercrombie %26amp; Fitch, FCUK, Aritzia, Bebe, etc. I'm not sure about price but those are some good stores!

Also, try Sherway Gardens or Yorkdale Mall. They both have Holt Renfrew if you want to shop for designer bags, or Coach. They have that too. Those are some really good malls to shop at.

Moving to downtown Toronto, where are the cheap home/ kitchen appliance shops and grocery stores?

I am moving to downtown Toronto and am not sure where I can find a Zellers or Walmart or somewhere that sells home/kitchen appliances and home decor at a reasonable price? What shops in downtown Toronto are reasonably cheaply priced and can provide me with the necessities I need? Also, where are the cheap grocery shops located downtown Toronto? Thanks!Moving to downtown Toronto, where are the cheap home/ kitchen appliance shops and grocery stores?
Downtown Toronto is way too general..the city is too big and covers too much to just say downtown. Look online for the closest Zellers/Walmarts using the location maps to find the closest ones to you. Check out NoFrill stores, or Independant Grocers or Price Choppers (all can be located with google maps for locations) close to you for reasonable prices. Also look for a Giant Tiger close to you..they are now carrying some groceries that are reasonable, though you won't be able to get all your groceries there. The Brick/Sears/Leons all have good pricing for appliances. Accessories and some furnishings can be purchased at Ikea for good prices too, but the Ikea's are not located downtown Toronto. I would suggest you start walking around your area of the city to see what is located close to you as there are many smaller stores that might have what you want close to you.Moving to downtown Toronto, where are the cheap home/ kitchen appliance shops and grocery stores?
If you keep your eye on sales, then you will always be a step ahead of the game...

What are some fun and unique ways a 30 year old can celebrate their Birthday in Toronto?

My friend will be turning 30 and I want to help her plan an awesome party that she will remember for a long time. She loves researching every detail and one of her favourite things to do is to research unique and tasty martinis and shooters. Is there anywhere in Toronto that specializes in Shooters that won't break the bank. Any other idea are welcome. What are some fun and unique ways a 30 year old can celebrate their Birthday in Toronto?
The place for the unique and artsy in Toronto: downtown, all the way! There are plenty of those stuff, in an authentic, luxury-tasting environment, although be prepared to spend a little extra cash. Take a walk around this weekend and see if there are any places that will interest her. After all, there's nothing that downtown doesn't have.

    Hope I helped!

I have come to Toronto from India & need information on available cheapest transport services?

I am at Brampton and need taxi or bus services to explore Toronto. Will appreciate if someone can guide and provide information including cost. I am new in the place and require expert advice urgently. I have relatives but all are busy in their own works.I have come to Toronto from India %26amp; need information on available cheapest transport services?
Living in Brampton is not good for public transport. It will take long time. Are you near shopper's world? then you can take Mississauga Transit to square one. Also links to Islington station of TTC is available. But it takes long time.

If you are new to Canada. I would say that you must stay in TTC serviced area. If you want link with Mississuaga and Brampton( to be near Indian people) then bloor and Dixie area provides link to both areas. Etobicoke area is also ok near albion/Islington. Look for 191 TTC rocket route. It takes you quickly to TTC kipling station.

I would re-emphasize that you must have TTC area link. If you are married and have kids, you need independent transport for them unless you want to transport them everyday which is not easy.

Exact cost does not matter but it is $10 for TTC pass giving you full day access. Your family (2+2 kids) can have it on weekends for full day access..... unlimited.

Go to woodbine beach at woodbine TTC station. Beware of sunburn. Indians are not used to sunburn but it does happen.

  • Anyone know any car sex spots on the drive from Toronto to Montreal?

I'm planning to drive with my girlfriend from Toronto to Montreal and we'd like to make pit stops (at least 2) on the way to have sex. Anyone know any good car-sex spots which won't invite trouble? This really is a serious question.Anyone know any car sex spots on the drive from Toronto to Montreal?
Sex in a car is really not about the sex itself. It's all about the risk of getting caught. Otherwise, why would you not just do this at your home before you leave, or at the hotel when you reach your destination, right? It makes it more exciting.

If caught, you can be charged with lewd conduct for having sex in public in Ontario. A car can be considered to be "in public" because the average vehicle has many windows that a pedestrian or other motorist can look into.

So what you will need to do is look for a place that is secluded and mostly deserted. I think you'd have to wait until at least after Pickering for such a place. From about there all the way to the Quebec border, there are several rural roads only serviced by farmers or occasional vehicles. You find a dead end dirt road. That sort of thing.
It's about a six hour drive from Toronto to Montreal. Are you sure you can get it up twice in that brief a period of time?

Idiot.Anyone know any car sex spots on the drive from Toronto to Montreal?
Just pull into any parking lot that says OPP on the Ontario side or QPP on the Quebec side.

Of course if you were staying in Toronto, I'd just recommend the subway. Apparantly it's the latest public sex spot...
Get a hotel room in Oshawa, Cobourg, Belleville, Kingston, Brockville or Cornwall. Seriously can you not go 6 or so hours without sex?
    You've been reported.

How to get from Toronto City Centre airport to Sheraton hotel?

I'm taking a Porter flight to Toronto. What the easiest/cheapest way to get from the island airport to the Sheraton hotel downtown? How to get from Toronto City Centre airport to Sheraton hotel?
The easiest way is a taxi. It's not that far and you probably have some luggage. If you have the time and want to save some $$ you could take a streetcar north on Bathurst to Queen. Get a transfer from the driver. At Queen, go toward downtown (east) and get off at your hotel, across from Toronto City Hall.

You could also take the Porter Shuttle. Their site says they only go to the Royal York. On a nice day you can walk from there (10-15 minutes...straight up Bay Street and then to your left) or take a taxi (five minutes) from there to your hotel. See the link and enjoy your visit.

p.s. I suggest the shuttle or a taxi. The corner of Bathurst and Queen is one of the worst in the city for homeless people etc. Not a good place for a business woman to be at any hour.
Hi again: I realised after I answered, you do not need to walk north to Queen. The hotel entrance is on York Street between Richmond and Queen. So you can walk north to Richmond, go left and you are there. Here's the hotels "local area page.

Can't speak specifically to TO, but in my town, yes..

The good news is that no kill shelters are on the rise, support them with $$$ if you can.
News to me that the Toronto Humane Society is back up and running after recent scandal.

The Toronto Humane Society claims they do not euthanize healthy pets after a certain period of time or in order to free up space. They do euthanize pets that are sick, dying and/or in too much pain.

Many shelters do euthanize animals after a certain timeline has passed. This is more common of cats than dogs due to cat overpopulation problems, a result of irresponsible owners. It's also easier to adopt off an adult dog than an adult cat, because so many prefer kittens which are seemingly always available for free. Puppies are harder to come by and can be quite expensive in their first year. The low cost of cats makes them dispensable to many. Will the animals at toronto humane society be euthanized if nobody want to adopt them after a certain time?
I don't know about in Toronto, but most Humane Society chapters will sometimes send very sick dogs or dogs that cannot be placed even after extensive advertising to Animal Control. To the best of my knowledge, the Humane Society itself does not euthanize any animals, but obviously they cannot permanently keep difficult to place animals, especially cats. The Humane Society is inundated with cats. Oftentimes local rescues will work with their Humane Society and the HS will contact them if there is an animal set to be placed in Animal Control and the rescue will pick the animals up.
Yes most human society's have a time limit the dogs can be there. Some are only 24 hours before the dog is euthanized. Many are 48 hours, lucky ones get a week. Do your best to discourage Back Yard Breeding/breeders and buying from petstores (puppy mills) and you can help stop the euthanisia rate.
Yes! It is true but sad. Wheh someone brings the animal to the shelter they check them out to make sure eveything is okk. Then the put them in a gated kennel and then if no one adopts them between 2 weeks, the put them down to sleep.
Its true in Toronto...its true in Richmond...Its true in Los Angeles...its true in Detroit....and basically all over the place
Yes it's true. Too many animals, not enough homes or shelters for them.

Can anyone give me an approximate average cost on utilities for a 3-4 bedroom home in Toronto? Heat, electricity, water. I'm thinking of buying a home and would like some of these additional numbers in mind when looking. What are the average utility costs for a home in Toronto?
Ask your realtor to request past ulitilty bills on houses that you are interested in. That will be the most accurate information.

However: 100 year old 5 bedroom house, has some improvements, needs more, lived in by 4 adults.

Hydro - around 100-120 per month

Gas heat and hot water - average 250 per month

Water and sewage - about 60 per month

We can improve on the gas bill a bit, but not much on the others.

Take the gardiner expressway and exit at spadina.
There are about 3 different "Chinatowns" in Toronto, but I think the best known one is on Spadina Avenue. On Spadina, south of Bloor Street.

    Have a good trip!
The main downtown Chinatown is located just south of the red square that indicates the University of Toronto on this map: http://www.physics.utoronto.ca/overview/鈥?/a>

You'll be coming into the city from the west, via the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way).

What kid-oriented activities should we do with kids in Toronto?

We will be in Toronto for 2 days in winter. The kids are 4 years old and enjoy all kinds of things. Preferably something the parents will enjoy too rather than a straight children's museum. What kid-oriented activities should we do with kids in Toronto?
Well the ROM is a Great choice which is what we call the museum here there is the Ontario Science Center which would be perfect. They have shows and exhibitions right there as well. Giant 3D theatre and special appearances. Google it to buy your tickets online or just get them at the door.
The kids will love the science centre (and so will you); it's great fun and educational too. Our family has a season's pass and go frequently. There is always something new to discover. You can also check out the Young People's Theatre, also good for kids and adults. The Toronto Zoo is open all year round. The winter is a particularly nice time to go as the crowds are sparse and the animals are active. The ROM is great too.

Enjoy and have fun. Welcome! What kid-oriented activities should we do with kids in Toronto?
Well, there is so much. I personally love the science centre. It is really fun! Very educational but parents will like it too. If they like hockey and skating then the hockey hall of fame is a great choice as well as nathan phillips square where there will be a outdoor skating rink during the winter. The ROM is also great fun as well as the CN Tower. The CN Tower is really fun and a great experience. Have fun on the trip!

    1) Make sure you live on rez (dorms as you guys call them) for at least your first year at UofT. After first year, you can rent a nearby apartment if you want...it's cheaper. But you need to experience rez life during first year.

    2) Join as many clubs as your timetable allows. UofT has 70 000 students, so if you wanna make friends, this is how you do it.

I can't remember the exact percentage...but UofT has a pretty high percentage of international students. So you won't be alone.

Also, like someone else mentioned, it does get cold in the winter. Just buy a huge coat + boots and you'll be fine.
the college life in canada is nothing like it is in the US. like the other guy mentioned, frats and sports are definately not as big.

but u of t is a good school, large nice campus right in the provinces capital, lots of good bars/clubs in the area, and youll probably be on res so either way youll make a lota good friendsHow is life for a college student at university of Toronto?
Don't expect massive culture shock -- weather shock perhaps during the winter but not culture shock. The big differences you will notice are that frats and athletics are far less important and the military presence non-existent. Much less casual flag-waving and more ethnic and social diversity.

How much should I budget per day to travel within Toronto?

I will be in Toronto and nearby areas in Ontario this July. How much should I allocate per day for expenses such as transportation, meals and other entrance fees (budget tour)? Estimates will be greatly appreciated. Accomodation not included as I will be staying with a friend. Hope to get some advice. I love Canada :)How much should I budget per day to travel within Toronto?
    I live in Toronto.

Transportation - the TTC (Toronto Transit) is AMAZING, can get anywhere in toronto. costs $2.75 per ride, or $22.50/ 20 tickets, $9.50/day pass, $109/month pass. Also, if you are planning on going to a city close by you can usually take a Go Train, from downtown toronto, can go pretty far for around $10 or less.

Meals - Depends how much you want to spend, could go anywhere from $5 - $50 per meal. Theres a lot of street vendors that sell hot dogs for around $2.50, theres alot of fast food places, or also restaurants anywhere from about $15-$50 a meal.

Tours/Entertainment - Theres a TON of attractions near (all of these are approx. prices), CN tower is $30, Ontario Place is $25, Wonderland is $40, Blue Jays Game is $10, Centerville is $25.. etc etc.

So it really depends on how much you want to spend.

    HAVE A FUN TRIP
For transportation I always get a day pass, they run $10.00 and you can use them up until 3 am the next day (available at any subway kiosk, I buy them as I travel so rarely downtown, and the cash fare is $2.85), meals are a bit tricky, it depends on your taste, we have a lot of ethnic places and the usual fast food types from the U.S or other regions of Canada, I would say lunch will cost $5-8, and dinners can range from $8-15. There are vendors on the street for a quick meal to, but just be careful.

Now for tours there is the Grey Line, they meet up in front of city hall and some of the hotels and have a city wide tour, there prices are reasonable, I went on it for lark, even though I have lived here for 15 yrs, it was very enjoyable around $15-20, I went a few years back, a night out with your friend, I would suggest the Toronto Harbour tour, you get it at the Queens Quay terminal on Lakeshore Blvd, it is around $20.

I am a former chef and know you will have lots of fun and there is so much to see and do here, get your friend to take you to the ethnic areas like Chinatown, Greektown and others, and do not forget to visit Honest Eds, it is a treat even for locals, Ed Mirvish past away last year at 93, but it is still a place were you feel he could still be greeting people at the doors. How much should I budget per day to travel within Toronto?

Where would be a better place to live the greater toronto area or edmonton?

I am planning on moving to somewhere outside of toronto or to edmonton, which has more to offer and what is the quality of life in both places?Where would be a better place to live the greater toronto area or edmonton?
You ask a good question but the answer really depends on what you mean by "better". Each city has something to offer.

If you do not like long and cold winters then you may be better off staying near Toronto...on the other hand, Edmonton doesn't get slushy, freezing rain that Toronto gets. Edmonton's summers are, of course, shorter, but they're at least as hot and there isn't the wilting humidity that you find in Toronto.

Edmonton isn't as big a city as Toronto but there is at least the same level of commerce and services as there are in Toronto.

I would recommend looking through http://wikitravel.org/en/Edmonton and http://wikitravel.org/en/Toronto

What are some gymnastics clubs in Thornhill or downtown Toronto that offer beginner tumbling classes?

I am thirteen years old, and have decided to take some tumbling classes in order to strengthen my tumbling for cheerleading. At the moment I can do a cartwheel, handstand, and a standing backbend. I would like to learn walkovers, roundoffs, handsprings, and eventually back tucks. I am available for once a week tumbling classes on MONDAYS. Any suggestions for gymnastics clubs in Thornhill or downtown Toronto that offer beginner tumbling classes/private lessons? You will need a background in Sciences, Maths, and pre-med. coursework. Also, your marks better be top-notch.

How to remove big furniture from my apartment in Toronto?

I live in Toronto and need to get rid of a wooden futon and cushion from my apartment. Can this be thrown out with the ordinary garbage? I am trying to avoid the costs of junk companies. How to remove big furniture from my apartment in Toronto?
In addition to the suggestions listed already, I would also consider listing them under "Free Stuff" on Craigslist.

    OR

We did this years ago when I was moving out of my Toronto apartment:

Build a sign that says "Free Stuff, Take It." and put the stuff outside with the sign on it. It was gone that day.
If you have charitable groups like The Salvation Army here in the States, they will pick it up and take it away free. Regular trash collectors will not take furniture or at least not here. We have many charitable organizations that will take anything away free and either re-purpose it or dispose of it. You should have many similar organizations. How to remove big furniture from my apartment in Toronto?
You can look for a thrift shop that takes this kind of stuff, and there are plenty of them.

Here (in CA) the sanitation dept (that picks up the trash weekly) also has a 'large item pickup'. You call their 800 number and they schedule to come within a few days. All you have to do is make sure it is at the curb when they come.

I wish more people would ask this kind of question. Many people just leave their old stuff at the curb or dump it somewhere close. It is a real eyesore and people should know how to get rid of old washers and beds and couches.

Is it possible to have the winter Olympics in Toronto?

I am wondering because there are no mountains, but there are a lot up north, but Toronto is the only major city.Is it possible to have the winter Olympics in Toronto?
Not in the near future -- 2010 Olympics (WINTER Games) are in Vancouver

Enjoy that Olympiad coming up in future months!
No, there's nowhere to host alpine events.

    Only major city?

Montreal and Vancouver are both over 1 million population-wise....

Muskoka isn't feasible for alpine. Not enough altitude and not a world-class skiing centre. Is it possible to have the winter Olympics in Toronto?
Actually, it would be possible to hold skiing events outside the city, probably around the Muskoka region which about an hour drive.

How far is the drive from Winnipeg Canada to Toronto Canada?

Is it a scenic drive? What is there to see in Toronto. Do we go through Montreal? How far is the drive from Winnipeg Canada to Toronto Canada?
The distance between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Toronto, Ontario is 940.0 miles(1513.0 km). Depending on how fast you drive and traffic, you're looking at a couple of days driving. Haven't done the drive myself, so I couldn't tell you if it's scenic or not - it's likely pretty flat country though. You could probably "google" Toronto tourist attractions and get a pretty good list of sites to see. And yeah, Montreal is further east, as has been stated, so you're not getting anywhere near there.
Mapquest puts it at a 27 hour drive and 1,300 miles. (People usually ask for the stay in Canada route - you can cut through the US.)

Although a long drive, it is scenic and diverse, starting in the prairies, going through the Canadian shield and along the great lakes.

Montreal is another 6 hours and 340 miles further east. How far is the drive from Winnipeg Canada to Toronto Canada?
About 21 hours 39 mins and 2,224 km according to google.com/maps. It is a VERY scenic drive! Enjoy your trip!

You will not go through Montreal. It is 6 hours+ further East.

Can you please suggest me where should i look for the best deal. any website or anything. thanking you in anticipation.Where can i get the cheapest return flight from toronto to manchester?
The lowest current published fare on that route for your travel period is $463 plus taxes and fees if you stay under 1 month, and $567 if you stay over one month.

That price is published by United, however US Airways offers it as a code share flight for $618, and Air Canada and Continental for $662.

The fare was a little lower for any return trips completed prior to April 30, but just went up.

All prices are in USD and subject to taxes and fees.

How many tenants can be in 1 bdr apartment Toronto?

    Hi,

    please let me know:

    1) how many tenants can be in 1 bdr apartment in Toronto?

    2) our current rent agreement has one tenant in it and two occupants. We want to change it so that we have equal rights, so we want to become tenants. If the tenant is not willing to do that can we enforce it?How many tenants can be in 1 bdr apartment Toronto?
    1. Based on your details it would be reasonable to assume that the same number of tenants may occupy an apartment as the total number of occupants/tenants. For argument's sake it would reasonable to assume that only 3 or 4 persons could live in a one bedroom regardless of whether they have tenant status or occupant status.

    2. The only way you can change the status of the existing occupants is to have the landlord and current tenant agree to make such a change. The landlord does not have to insist that the two persons listed as occupants be listed as "tenants" nor does the person listed as a tenant have to agree to the idea.
You cannot force the tenant to have you sign on as tenants. The reason you cannot force the tenant to do this is because there is an existing contract between the landlord and the tenant and a contract cannot be changed unless both parties are in agreement unless of course there is some sort of violation.

3rd when does each 1 start and wen does it finish?

if you have any specific information about university of Toronto that would excellent...

thnxWhen does semesters start and end in universities in Toronto Canada?
Fall semester is September first weekend through December 15th-ish. Depends on when your exams end.

Winter semester is January first weekend until about the end of April.

You get about two weeks at Christmas and one week (reading week) in the middle of February as a break. Summer term is really only if you failed a course or are trying to get ahead, or change programs.

Each term is always 13 weeks of instruction and about 10 days of final exams. When does semesters start and end in universities in Toronto Canada?
Not sure specifically about U of T, but most Canadian universities are approximately like this:

    Fall semester: August to December

    Winter semester: January to April

Summer semester: May to July or June to August

What are the cool things you can do in toronto ?

I am going there for june and i wonder how can i enjoy the most out of toronto? What are the cool things you can do in toronto ?
First , I'd like to offer another perspective on Casa Loma. I went there with my parents when they visited me and it was not worth the 15 dollar price of admission. To call it a "castle" is a stretch since it was only complete in 1914, it's really a ostentatious building intended to look like a castle. And there really wasn't anything important that happened in the building since then. The indoor pool, would have been interesting to see but it's been drained. The gardens are ok...

    So what should you do?

Take advantage of Toronto's greatest asset- it's unique neighborhoods. I would do a walking tour of Chinatown,The Annex, and Kensignton Market- three areas adjacent to each other in downtown Toronto. I would also check out the marvelous St. Lawrence Market on Front Street, and the newly renovated Royal Ontario Museum on Bloor. I
The waterfront has great free music. Casa Loma is a castle in the heart of the city and worth visiting. The Ontario Science Centre is a hands on museum and a lotta fun. Visit Chinatown and Greek Town and sample the food. The Eaton Centre is a HUGE mall. Canada's Wonderland up north and the Zoo are also well worth visiting. Cruise Yonge Street, the underground tunnels and the cool shops on Bloor. What are the cool things you can do in toronto ?
ok go to canada's wonderland its the best they have this new rollar coster. i hear it's really sweet

Thanks you!Could you recommend an upscale authentic Chinese restaurant in Toronto?
The Mandarin's always a good choice
    Yes, that is true.

You may check out this site http://www.restaurantica.com/ for reviews and reference.

In Toronto or Greater Toronto Area (GTA), there are numerous Chinese restaurants. It all depends on your taste, preference, budget, and location.

You will have no problem finding Cantonese and Shanghai cuisines. In addition, if you like variety / overseas Chinese food, there are Indian Chinese Hakka, Malaysia/Singapore Chinese restaurants.

I would definitely suggest that you find out what your clients like or their expectation, or is there any specific food they like to try. That will be a good starting point for you.Could you recommend an upscale authentic Chinese restaurant in Toronto?
Toronto has the best general Chinese food outside of China! We do staples and Chinese street food very well. Toronto, doesn't have the same cache when it comes to upscale Chinese restaurants. However, there are two that will definitely impress. Lai Wah Heen, and sister restaurant Lai Toh Heen; anyone from Hong Kong will feel at home at these two restaurants.

Toronto Tents and Events is definitely your best bet if your looking for good prices. Most Toronto tent rental companies overcharge for their party tents in my opinion.

Check out their site, they have all their prices listed along with the type of commercial tent rentals they have to offer. If you feel like it's all new to you and need some help deciding, don't hesitate to give them a call at 416-800-8965.

Toronto Airport do we have to re-check in our luggage for a stop in Toronto?

We're going to travel to San Francisco with a stop in Toronto (YYZ) with Air Canada.

Im just wondering do we have to check our luggage out and in again when we stop in YYZ?

Thanks in advanceToronto Airport do we have to re-check in our luggage for a stop in Toronto?
Yes, you will. After landing in Toronto, you will have to clear customs, claim your baggage, and re-check it.

    Have a great trip!
It depends on where you are coming from. If your travel starts in any other Canadian city, then you do not have to claim your bags or go through Customs/Immigration in Toronto; if you are coming from any other country, including the US, you will need to claim all your bags, clear customs/immigration, then check your bags again. Be forewarned that immigration in Toronto's Pearson International Airport can take a very long time. The lines are usually crazy. Be on the lookout for the "in transit" lanes which are specifically for people who are just passing through Canada and not staying, as these lines are usually shorter.Toronto Airport do we have to re-check in our luggage for a stop in Toronto?
Do you hold a USA passport? Do you hold a Canadian Passport?

Here is how it will work:

DUB - YYZ (check bags in at DUB; in flight you will pick up a declarations card for Canada a visa waiver card; after customs check you will pick up your bags and proceed to check in for flight to SFO)

YYZ - SFO (in flight you will be given a USA declarations card and visa waiver; go through customs in SFO; pick up bags)

You can also visit aircanda.com for more information
No, you don't have to. They do all that for you. Your bags don't get to baggage claim until you do. When you arrive, they unload the baggage.

Toronto party tent rentals, which company should I choose?

I have been planning a corporate event for this summer and want to get my party tent rental done in advance. I have looked at a few Toronto tent rental companies but they seem quite expensive. I was looking for a party tent that can hold at least 60 people with seating and tables. The event will take place on grass.

Has anyone ever used a Toronto party tent rental company that they would like to recommend? A tent rental company with lower prices would be nice.Toronto party tent rentals, which company should I choose?
I would have to agree, my friends went with Toronto Tents and Events last summer and they seemed really professional about everything.Toronto party tent rentals, which company should I choose?
Toronto Tents and Events is definitely your best bet if your looking for good prices. Most Toronto party tent rental companies overcharge for their party tents in my opinion.

I had a wedding last June and ended up choosing them for my party tent rental. I couldn't have been more pleased with their service. • How easy is it to find a job in Toronto Ontario?

I am an American and I would like to move to Canada during the start of the new year. I grew up in Canada and I am still considered a landed immigrant. I also have a social insurance number. I will be graduated college in December with a B.A in criminal justice. I need tips and advice as to how difficult it could be to find employment, what kind of job opportunities in the criminal justice field there are in Toronto and so on. Everything helps, thank you!How easy is it to find a job in Toronto Ontario?
There is a website called Job Bank Canada (www.jobbank.gc.ca) where you can search for jobs by city and by job field. You can also try other online sites like workopolis and kijiji to search out jobs. How easy is it to find a job in Toronto Ontario?
Right now? Employment in Toronto is not actually that great and very competitive.

Criminal Justice? - Do you want to be a police officer? You'll have to apply. Right now, it's not easy at all. Cadet Training, etc.

With a BA it wouldn't be too hard to find a job in the gov't. At an hourly rate though, nothing salary based.

If you have a good job in the States right now, I wouldn't recommend coming over here just yet.

What is the best transportation way to get from Pearson International Airport Toronto to Winona Drive?

What is the best transportation way to get from Pearson International Airport Toronto to Winona Drive?

I may use public transportation or taxi, but i dunno how much it costs by taxi though.

I will have 2 suitcases by the way.

Thanks for reply! (I had asked another address before, cause my homestay address changed before I fly to Toronto)What is the best transportation way to get from Pearson International Airport Toronto to Winona Drive?
The taxicabs at Toronto's Pierson International Airport mostly charge a flat rate based on distance to specific sections of the city. According to the first source link I posted below, your fixed rate to Winona Drive should be:

    - approximately $42.00 (if north of St. Clair Avenue)

    - approximately $44.00 (if south of St. Clair Avenue)

Remember, this price is in Canadian dollars.

The GST tax is included in this price. Their might be a slight fuel surcharge of a couple of dollars added.

With two suitcases, taxi should be the most conveniant mode of transporation. There is no direct route using public transportation. Click on the second source link I posted below to check out public transportation.
With luggage, a taxi would probably be more convenient, but here are the TTC directions.

Take TTC route 192 from the airport to Kipling subway, then the Bloor-Danforth line to St George. From there take the Yonge-University-Spadina line north to St Clair West, and then route 512 west to Winona. What is the best transportation way to get from Pearson International Airport Toronto to Winona Drive?
You will likely have to pay at least $50 for a taxi but with 2 suitcases you will struggle with public transportation.
    Winona Dr, Toronto, ON M6G3S8

You are looking at $50 minimum, this depends on the taxi. Are you using Blue and White?

Is the Broadview and Chester Hill Rd area in Toronto a safe place to live?

I'm moving to Toronto soon. I have a possible temporary apartment near this area, but I wanted to see if it was a safe place to live or not. I have heard that the Danforth is good, but heard that Flemingdon Park is a bad area. What is the general opinion? Is the Broadview and Chester Hill Rd area in Toronto a safe place to live?
Like ever large city there are good and bad areas as you said. but as far as this area for being in a large Metropolis it is okay. God luck with your moveIs the Broadview and Chester Hill Rd area in Toronto a safe place to live?
It's a fine area. Nothing too special. There are a bunch of older suburban homes mixed in with some newer condos. It's the kind of area where you'll probably get along with the neighbours, or just leave them alone. It's safe.

Flemingdon Park is a bit of a ghetto, but it's not around your area. Overall Toronto is a fairly safe city. The only areas I'd really avoid living in would be Jane/Finch, Regent Park, and Rexdale, assuming you don't know the city. Toronto is full of so many areas with their own flavour, so it depends what you like.

Your area will be good for you, and once you're here you can check out other areas if you want something different. It's convenient transportation-wise whether you have a car or not. You're up the road from the subway and you're also near a couple of on-ramps to the DVP highway. You can walk down to the Danforth for Greek food.

What do you think of Colby Rasmus traded to Toronto Blue Jays?

What do you think of the trade? How do you think Toronto will stack up in the coming years? What do you think of Colby Rasmus traded to Toronto Blue Jays?
hope his father gets along better with the Jays coaching staff
Anthopolous is amazing.... Rasmus is only going to improve and has a lot of potential (He was ranked as number 3 prospect in all of baseball before getting called up). And ANthopolous didn't have to give much up. The Jays got a real good General Manager he's made so many trades to make his team better like getting Yunel Escobar, Jose Bautista and lots of other talented players. What do you think of Colby Rasmus traded to Toronto Blue Jays?
I think its a great deal for you guys, but so far our end has panned out great, Dotel, Patterson, and the other guy who I can't spell his name are doing pretty good so far while Edwin Jackson who we technically got from Chicago did awesome, but Colby is a piece of work, he's good, but he has maturity issue so I hope you guys can get passed that. cause it was a factor for us and thats why we traded him
i like it. Colby is young so there is room for improvement. with all the young talent coming up next year and the cash they have, the Blue Jays can be a threat. they will be signing some top free agents in the winter. people who don't know anything about the blue jays (^^^) cant give you a solid answer about their future. because they have no idea how good their farm is and they have no idea how much cash they have.

i see colby turning out like escobar. success in a different environment. our biggest loss in the deals was Zep and maybe Stewart
Well since they didn't give up much, and got an allright player they should be better suited team. The team won't be much better next year, never know though, if they change to an 8-team playoff then maybe Jays make it in.
I think That it stupid that he left the cardinals

What is there to do in Toronto this weekend for a Valentine's Day getaway with my wife?

My wife and I are 25-30 and looking for fun activities and nightlife in Toronto, ON this weekend. She has never been to Toronto and it has been a few years since I last went.

    Any good bar/restaurant recommendations?

Any locals know the little known gems you could point us to?

Your help is much appreciated! What is there to do in Toronto this weekend for a Valentine's Day getaway with my wife?
Someone mentioned the korean grill house and these are pretty good. A little smoky sometimes but a fun experience to cook your own food on the grill at your table.

Another place with nice low lighting, good food and a good atmosphere is the elephant and castle on Yonge St. They close around 12:30 pm so you may want somewhere else for after. I say this one is the best for a valentine's dinner!

An eclectic and interesting bar that's open til 2 is the green room near bloor and brunswick. It's not fancy but the environment is nice.

For some live irish music 365 nights/year til 2 you can check out the james joyce, also near bloor and brunswick.

Sunday brunch at the gallery grill in the hart house building on the u of toronto campus is also quite nice. Classy and very good food. Check the hours though since they are limited!

Hope you guys have a fun valentine's weekend! What is there to do in Toronto this weekend for a Valentine's Day getaway with my wife?
I'm 17, so my idea of a "fun weekend" is on the other end of the spectrum from what I assume you guys do. But as for the restaurants, it all depends on what type of foods you like. I use these two sites every time I plan to go out:

http://www.blogto.com/ - Features a "best of Toronto" category ranging from best Thai restaurant, best burritos, best pubs, best pizza, etc etc. The list goes on.

http://www.dine.to/ - Along the same lines as the site above.

My personal favourite is this restaurant called "Korean Grill House" and theres several locations downtown (look it up online). Its literally a restaurant where you cook your own food. You're seated at a table with a circular grill in the center with tongs that you use to cook the raw-meat they serve and watch them sizzle before your eyes. They serve a lot of different meats and all you can eat specials. Its actually a fun inexpensive place to eat.

Should I get a university degree and then go through a police academy? I am just wondering these things. What do I need to become part of the Toronto Metropolitan Police Force. Specifically Constable?
You don't need a university degree, but the chances of getting hired are much better with one (a college degree would work as well). You should have some extra-curricular interests that involve the community as well (coaching kids, volunteering ). Go to the Metro Toronto website for specifics about the other qualifications. http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/careers/

What hotels in Toronto do and dont have bed bugs?

I have heard of hotels lately in Toronto infested with bedbugs, could you please list where they do and don't have bed bugs, preferably where they don't? Thank-you.What hotels in Toronto do and dont have bed bugs?
Bed bugs have been a problem across North America in the last several years. Toronto isn't much different, especially among cities its size.

Check out the registry link below to see possible places to avoid.
Bedbug Registry is good although it is a self-reporting type of website so someone with a grudge can easily go in and report a hotel just because they feel like it.

That said, i suspect that most hotels have some bedbugs because they travel in the suitcases of travellers from one hotel to another and then back to that person's home.

your best bet is to inspect the room carefully when you get there. You may also wish to call the hotel to find out what regular spraying etc they do forbedbugs and opther pest to see fi they are even acknowledging that they may have them and taking precautionary steps.

Finally, some travelers have taken to bringing along a non-chemical spray and, even if they do not see bedbugs in their room, giving the mattress and other areas a good spraying. Kleen-Free (www.Kleen-Free.com is online store) is one that is mentioned and there are others available as well. Most of these are only contact killers so spraying something that is not there does little good but it may give you enough reassurance to get a good night's sleep.

Good luck. What hotels in Toronto do and dont have bed bugs?
Ya its a problem across the country, most hotels dont even know they have bed bugs , so it would be best to call a hotel you want to patron and ask if they have recently been inspected.
dude bedbugs only exhist in the show rugrats

Relocating to Canada. What are some reliable websites I can search houses for rent in Toronto?

I've tried Craigslist already and found a couple scams (no surprise!) Advice on where to look for residential houses or condos for rent in the Toronto area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Relocating to Canada. What are some reliable websites I can search houses for rent in Toronto?

craigslist is a waste of time compared to kijiji.
I'd go with either the classified ads on the Toronto Sun or Toronto Star's websites, or look for one of the websites for companies that market apartments for rent for building owners.

If you're looking for the high end market look to the Globe and Mail classifieds or go to a real estate agent.Relocating to Canada. What are some reliable websites I can search houses for rent in Toronto?

What are the best places to go for walks during the day and night in Toronto?

What are the best places to go for walks during the day and night in Toronto? What are the best places to go for walks during the day and night in Toronto?
If you want to go for a walk while still taking in "excitement" of the city, start at bloor and yonge walk south, towards queen then walk west along queen to spadina.

If you want to go for a leisurely, 'clear your mind' kind of walk, my faves are along harbourfront or in high park.

These are good spots day or night... well expect high park, it's not very well lit at night. What are the best places to go for walks during the day and night in Toronto?
I agree with the above... Queen West is my favourite place to walk, day or night.

In the day I also love the Distillery District... start at Mill %26amp; Parliament!

At night I love walking through the Financial District on King... the bank towers and less-busy streets/sidewalks are beautiful - much different from the daytime.

Front Street/The Esplanade and the Harbourfront are also nice :)

    Enjoy!
Definitely, you should go see the CN tower- its worth the view and the glass floor is really neat. The zoo is huge and you can see a lot but its a tad pricey. I'm planning to buy an iphone and i need help. Because this is the first phone i'm buying, i really don't know much about how the service plan works. I currently live in toronto, and I plan to move to hamilton (same province) next year for university. If i buy my plan in toronto would i still be able to use my phone in hamilton?Iphone service plan after moving from toronto to hamilton?
If your with Rogers, Bell, Telus, or Fido, then Absolutely.

If however you are with one of these new mini-carriers like Wind, then you may not have the coverage in hamilton that you need, as well as phone number options.

Your best bet is to speak with your wireless provider, though I suspect that you shouldn't have any problem. Maybe (depending on the level of tyranny supported by your provider) a service fee for changing the address on your account, though rogers has never charged me this, and their often one of the worst two for weird charges.

Where is the best place to buy furniture in Toronto?

I'm moving to Toronto and need to buy furniture. I'm not a big fan of Ikea. What are some good stores that I should go to for furniture like bed, dining room, living room, etc?Where is the best place to buy furniture in Toronto?
If you want mainstream furniture, you can go to Sears, The Brick or Leons. All these places have financing and delivery which makes it very easy. They have weekly specials and the flyers are available to view online.

If you want something funkier, try Jalan. It's furniture from Indonesia. I have dining room and living room furnished by Jalan. There is the main store is at 699 Queen St. W.

416-504-3473, but they also have a warehouse which only opens on the weekends at discounted prices. You can get info at the main store.
I am sure they have big department stores like Sears, and the Bay. And you will find a lot of furniture shops in Toronto, it is a big city. Look in the yellow pages after you move. You can get to know the city while you are looking for the different shops you have found. There are also smaller specialty stores like Linen and THings, designer depot, The brick has alot of furniture can be over prices but is worth checking out for the sales. Hope this helps and good luck!Where is the best place to buy furniture in Toronto?
Leon's is a great place and their prices have actually come down.

Arrow furniture is also very good and the Brick is not bad ( not a fan)

Is there a cheaper way to go from Toronto airport to Burlington than a $70 taxi?

I'm mexican and I'm flying to Toronto to meet some friends, they live in Burlington (that's about 55 km away from yyz) and they tell me that a taxi will cost me $70 to get there. Are there any trains or buses that go to Burlington or maybe one that will get me close? Thanks. Is there a cheaper way to go from Toronto airport to Burlington than a $70 taxi?
    From Toronto Pearson Airport:

    1) Take the miWay (Mississauga Transit) number 7 bus from Pearson Airport Terminal 1 or Terminal 3.

    2) Get off at the Square One Bus Terminal.

    3) Transfer to the miWay 19 bus at Square One Bus Terminal heading south.

    4) Get off at Port Credit GO station.

    5) Take the Aldershot-bound (westbound) Lakeshore West GO train at Port Credit.

    6) Get off at either Appleby, Burlington or Aldershot GO stations.

A one way GO train ticket from Port Credit to those following destinations are as follows:

    Appleby: $6.50CDN

    Burlington: $6.70CDN

    Aldershot $7.45CDN

On top of your miWay fare of $3.00CDN, the prices for GO train fares from Port Credit to these stations are as follows:

    Appleby: $9.50CDN

    Burlington: $9.70CDN

    Aldershot: $10.45CDN

There was one time that a GO bus runs from Pearson Airport to Square One Bus Terminal, but that was discontinued/scrapped early this year. Also, if you were to take the 40 GO bus route and transfer to the 21 GO bus through Toronto Union and take the Lakeshore West GO train, you still have to go through Toronto Union Station - just to take the GO train to those destinations.

For the Lakeshore West GO train schedule, click here:

To learn more about miWay, click here: http://www.missisauga.ca/miway

    I hope this helps.

Have one of them pick you up! You just flew all the way for Mexico and they can't meet you at the airport? Nice friends.

What is the absolute best Indian restaurant in Toronto?

What i'm looking for is the best Indian Restaurant in Toronto, meeting the following criteria:

1.Taste. It has to taste good, obviously. I prefer something authentic, rather than 'fusion cuisine'.

2.Setting. I prefer a fine dining establishment as compared to a bistro or a trendy bar-restaurant combination. I prefer elegance to trendiness, but I am still willing to compromise on this.

3.Service. I prefer to be served by professional trained waitstaff who know what they're doing, rather than students.

Cost is a secondary concern. What is the absolute best Indian restaurant in Toronto?
Hi there! First off, just a note about the previous answerer's response - there's no longer the veggie Siddhartha in Little India two blocks away from the veggie-and-meat one. The veggie Siddhartha closed down months ago and was replaced by a different restaurant.

However, I do agree that there aren't too many Indian restaurants that are "fine dining" in Toronto, and the highest reviewed ones are often casual places. (I would stay away from standbys like Babar, Mother India, and Trimurti's, who rack up stars at review sites because they have easy-to-please student patrons but are otherwise competent and unremarkable, while better places have lower ratings because their patrons are more discriminating.)

Here are my top 5 recommendations, in no particular order:

    Amaya The Indian Room

    Closest intersection: Eglinton and Bayview

Example main dish: "Tandoori beef vindaloo - marinated cubes of beef tenderloin roasted on skewers in the clay oven served with a spicy vindaloo sauce %26amp; onion rings" for $21

Why I'm recommending them: gourmet, high-end experience that's been well-reviewed by critics

    Kama

    Closest intersection: King and University

Example main dish: "Lamb/beef nilgiri - a specialty from the Nilgiri Hills. Lamb or beef cubes curried in a fresh mint and coriander sauce" for $15

Why I'm recommending them: lovely high-end decor, tasty food, excellent professional service (when I was there, a year and a half ago or so)

    Utsav

    Closest intersection: Bay and Bloor

Example main dish: "Goan Fish - curry filet of salmon cooked in a traditional hot and tangy goan curry" for $15

Why I'm recommending them: they're in the fanciest neighborhood in the city, high end, great reviews from patrons

    Mela Indian Cuisine

    Closest intersection: Avenue and Wilson

Example main dish: "Lamb Chop - tender lamb chop marinated with Indian spice %26amp; herbs, roasted in tandoori oven, served with Bengal style mashed potatoes and chickpeas" for $21

Why I'm recommending them: they're consistently well-reviewed, and although their setting isn't traditional (no white tablecloths) it's modern upscale, not "bistro" - maybe a little trendy

259 Host (not to be confused with their less-well-reviewed Host Indian Cuisine sister restaurant)

    Closest intersection: King and Spadina

Example main dish: "Australian Rack of Lamb - cooked in a tandoor marinated with roasted spices, medium rare, served with spicy vindaloo sauce" for $22

Why I'm recommending them: consistently well-reviewed, interesting gourmet offerings, however they're leaning towards the "trendy bar-restaurant" combination you mentioned

I should also note that these higher-end places tend to justify their cost with more creative techniques or unconventional ingredients (especially Amaya and 259 Host), but I wouldn't call them fusion by any means. Kama, Utsav, and Mela have more traditional menus, but probably less exciting.

Also, I listed meat main dishes here, but all five restaurants had great options for vegetarian mains and appetizers as well. (I'm a vegetarian and keep an eye out for that kind of thing.)

Best of luck and happy dining!! :)
I am a former chef and go to many, Bombay Palace on Jarvis St is nice, Sittarahia on Gerrard St in Little India is good to, they have a regular and veggie one 2 blocks from each other, I also go to Saravanna Bhavan in Mississauga, Dabar on King St near John to fits your criteria, I like buffet places as I can pick and choice, both the types of food and portions sizes.

Not many run a white glove french service type operation, all have good food, reasonable service and fair prices, around the same as most other Asian restaurants. What is the absolute best Indian restaurant in Toronto?
I've tried them all and the best is definitely Kama. Across the street from Roy Thomson Hall on the lower level. Ambiance is great, service classy and the food is so authentic.

How come Toronto does not have a Hispanic community like American cities? 10 points?

How come the Toronto does not have a hispanic community like most cities in the United States.

Some one told me it was because its not close to south of the Rio Grand river but cities like New York, Detroit , Chicago all have large hispanic population and have hispanic community like Spanish Harlem in NY and Mexican Town in Detroit.

Now some one told me that there is a hispanic area near St. Clair and Bathurst and college st Area and also around Dufferin St area is that true .How come Toronto does not have a Hispanic community like American cities? 10 points?
don't know what the others are talking about. Toronto does have a fairly large hispanic community. It used to be centered more around the Bloor-Bathurst area about 10 or 15 years ago. Now the main spanish area is located on St Clair W, between Bathurst and Dufferin. You can enjoy the spanish culture, dance and food at the annual Salsa on St. Clair festival every July!

    Hope that helps.
I'm guessing it's because it's, well, America. Cities like New York and Detroit are very large and appealing to someone from south of the boarder to go to and though that are far away, they might not be as attracted to any Canadian cities. Being an American, I know a few Canadian cities, but only a few and eve so I have no idea how large they are or even what they might look like. I think cities like New York are more publicized and the immigrating Hispanics just tend to migrate to those places because of the publicity...

but yeah... I'm just guessingHow come Toronto does not have a Hispanic community like American cities? 10 points?
Toronto has a huge and growing Hispanic population. I have visited some of my Hispanic friends up there. Montreal has a huge population as well.

They may not be in your area but they are definitely in your city.

Off topic, I remember being shocked at how large the Hispanic populations were in Anchorage and Fairbanks when I went there. They are not exactly close to the Rio Grande.
It is just a matter of time and Canada will have an ever increasing Mexican population as well. It is a slow movement north that will continue as long as the unemployment rate in Mexico is higher than that of the U.S. and Canada.
crossing one border is easier than crossing two.
cuz i can put you in a condo

all the way up in torontoo. %26lt;33

What are some reliable international shipping companies in Toronto?

Bec. I would like to ship some luggage overseas from Toronto to Australia. Items would include clothing, books, picture frames, small appliance (flat iron, hair dryer, etc.). And probably a 27" tv (slimfit series) if it's worth shipping that is shipping cost less than value of tv.

Thx.What are some reliable international shipping companies in Toronto?
DHL... best shipper for overseas stuff. I would NEVER ship heavy, household items overseas... get rid of them and buy new when you get there, that way you know you will have appliances that will work with the local electrical systemWhat are some reliable international shipping companies in Toronto?
DHL is the best rest of the companies charge much and are mostly for big shipping orders
