I just couldn't go up to someone in a library or a park and go "what's your name? would you like to be my friend?" but ppl gather there, and at the beach and in coffee houses etc. Try putting an ad on Toronto's Craigslist, "stritcly platonic" because it's hard to make friends in the streets unless you bump into someone cool by accident and you have stuff in common. Otherwise try joining a club/group/organization of stuff you're passionate about.
