I need to find a job as a sewer. Are there any stores in Toronto that will hire some one who is experienced in sewing but can work from home. For example: The store gives the sewer the fabric, he/she takes it home and sews from there, then when he's/she's done, they pick it up. Thanks.Where in Toronto is there a store that hires sewers that work from home?
I don't think you'll be able to find anything like that. My mother is a seamstress who works from home. People go to her home with when they want something. If you want to work at home, there are other things you can do. I work from home and love it. If you want to contact me, I can give you more info.Where in Toronto is there a store that hires sewers that work from home?
I think you might have more luck finding this time of job if you use the right term in your search.
People who sew for a living aren't called sewers ... they are known as tailors (men) or seamstresses (women). You can search using those two terms or "custom sewing" or "custom tailoring."
Most retail stores buy garments premade from the manufacturer so you won't have any luck finding work there. However bridal and formal shops and specialty baby shops DO contract out for custom sewing. I would check the yellow pages and call them all. You could also visit religious shops around town -- to let them know that you make custom Christening gowns, first communion gowns, etc. Don't forget uniform shops such as school uniforms, sports uniforms, or work uniform shops..
