What is there to do in Toronto during the winter?

i will be in toronto for three days from jan 1st to the 3rd. what should i do while i'm there? should i bother going to the toronto islands? will it be snowing in toronto? i'd like to do some low cost snow activities like sledding or tubing as well if i can. where can i go and how much would it cost? thanks! What is there to do in Toronto during the winter?
It's pretty cold in Toronto during this time I wouldn't go to the Toronto Islands it's freeeezing right now near the lake. I usually stick to the malls or go to clubs during the winter. You can also go the CN Tower if you haven't gone or anything but I would keep it in doors. If you do want to be out than just bring a really warm winter jacket, hat , scarf, warm boots and mitts and you should be OK depending on the temp since sometimes it varies.
I am not from Toronto but the guy I'm in a relationship with is from there. From what he tells me, there isn't really much you can do there during winter. It's not Aspen or Vale, you see. It's a city comparable to NYC, the main city of Toronto at least. That being said, you need to remember the GTA is huge and every part has it's own characteristic. You should definitely not go to the Scarborough area, as well as Jane and Finch because that's trouble.

It has been snowing in Toronto for weeks now and the past few days have become breeding time for terrible snow storms. If you really must go there this season, just do the normal sightseeing. I doubt going to the islands is a good thing considering the terribly unpredictable weather, but go if you really want to.

Lastly, you might want to go to Elora, which is an hour and a half drive from Toronto. It's home to a number of art studios, galleries and gift shops. It's really cozy, quaint, and small. What is there to do in Toronto during the winter?
However, you can go to the new years eve party that is hosted by city tv on new years eve. however, there is not a lot of winter activities in toronto, however, you should climb up to the 144th floor of the CN Tower and take as many pictures as possible (memories are priceless), lol! I am sorry I don't travel too much, but you can always go to toronto.com and find some information about the various parks and events that are winter related. However, visiting public parks will not cost you a cent, but if you decide to go to a provincial or national park, then yes. I am sorry I don't have any info on the figure amounts. I hope this helps and have a fun and safe trip! Just also wanted to let you know that you can buy a city pass for $54.40 US online and this will get you into the CN Tower, Casa Loma, Ontario Science Center, Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto Zoo and the Hockey Hall of Fame. The website is http://www.citypass.com/city/toronto.htm鈥?/a>
there's lots to do!

check out this website. It has a list of events happening in toronto, updated daily:

Hibernate bro!!! When in bear country, do what the bears do...cheers!
HI - there is lots to do in Toronto during the winter - depending on how tolerant you are of the cold, there are lots of outdoor skating rinks (the downtown one at Nathan Phillips Square is quite nice) where you can rent a pair of skates and skate around.

Sledding is amazing this time of year, esp since we've had a couple of really good snowfalls in the last few days - I think we're supposed to get another one today... I've attached a link that gives you some good areas / hills to sled to. I'm not sure if they rent sleds but you can get one at Walmart or Canadian Tire for $10 and it's good enough. The snow we received should stay on the ground when you're here too.

There's lots of great shopping downtown and in malls across the city (Yorkdale, Scarborough Town, Fairview) where you could really find great deals this time of year too.

Indoor venues would be the Art Gallery of Ontario, Royal Ontario Museum, Hockey Hall of Fame, Ontario Science Centre, CN Tower.

If you like good food, TO has amazing restaurants - whatever food you imagine you will find here. TO is a very diverse city in terms of people from all over the world. Here is a link to some different restaurants in the city:

Not sure about the Islands this time of year - I've never been in the winter so I wouldn't know, it's more a summer destination to be honest with its beaches and biking trails, but there is quite a bit you can do in the three days you'll be here, you may not have the chance to go there.

Hope this helps, and one more thing...please don't listen when people tell you to avoid certain areas of the city - esp the people who aren't even from TO! - all areas are good and every city has crime, even in the 'good' neighbourhoods. Downtown has crime too, just like Jane/Finch and Scarborough, but all these areas are full of life and have excellent qualities, they are great areas of the city.
