I've been looking around on the internet for different universities in Toronto but it's so confusing and I thought it better to ask someone who actually properly knows the city. Could anyone give me a brief rundown of the different universities and what they specialise in? Thank you. What good universities are there in Toronto?
York University is a very popular university for Journalism, Arts and some Informational Technology studies.
Ryerson University is very known for business and medical studies.
The most top-ranked university of all is the University of Toronto. It has a very known reputation for foreign students. There are also campuses in Scarborough to the east and Mississauga to the west of the city.
OCAD University is best known for graphic design, drama and other stuff. It's legal name though is the Ontario College of Arts and Design.
Outside of Toronto, there is the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). It's known for information technology.

Ryerson is right in the centre of the city and provides a lot of specialized courses. It used to be called Ryerson Polytechnic University, and before that it was R.P. Institute. It has quite a few creative programmes such as Fashion, Journalism, Media, Film, etc. It also has a good selection of other courses.
U. of T. is the standard general university, the kind of place you would like if you're an intellectual. It has all the basic courses any large university has and a lot of master and PhD programmes.
York is sort of a mix of the two. It's up in the suburbs, a bit of a hike if you live downtown. If you grew up in the suburbs in Toronto, this is probably where you'd want to go. It's a very large university. The Film programme is noteworthy. Of course it has a number of good programmes.
Those are the 3 universities in Toronto. There are also a bunch of colleges. What good universities are there in Toronto?
PLEEEASE go to a school outside of toronto. all the schools in toronto (york, ryerson, u of t) are 'commuter schools' meaning most of the students who attend live at home and commute to school everday.
University towns are much more fun, because everyone lives on campus, theres always house parties , events on campus, etc. The feel is very different, much more of a 'university experience.' A few well known ones are Queens, Waterloo, Guelph, Laurier, Mac...
If you're looking right in the downtown core, then:
University of Toronto (best one probably)
Ryerson University
York University (really good MBA)
If you're willing to travel a bit out of Toronto then:
University of Waterloo (best for engineering)
McMaster University (best for medical fields)
University of Western Ontario
